How to make see-through text to image in GIMP

A really simple little trick to adding normal text to an image and making it look interesting! This technique can be used for nearly any photograph, however it is a lot easier to see the text with less detailed and contrasty photographs.

ANZAC Day – Melbourne, Australia – Lest We Forget

Notice: Undefined variable: read_more in /home/scottp12/public_html/wp-content/themes/traction/archive.php on line 34

I was at the dawn ANZAC service in Melbourne last year and captured a nice moment by the Eternal Flame:

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, and is commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. It now more broadly commemorates all those who died and served in military operations for their countries. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tonga. How to make an ‘Obama’ HOPE Poster in GIMP

Notice: Undefined variable: read_more in /home/scottp12/public_html/wp-content/themes/traction/archive.php on line 34

There are a few tutorials for this in Photoshop and Illustrator, but I haven’t found any for the GIMP, so I attempted it myself! It is a fairly simple method and easily done with great results!

Digital Blending – Dynamic Range – GIMP

Notice: Undefined variable: read_more in /home/scottp12/public_html/wp-content/themes/traction/archive.php on line 34

When wanting to combine two or more photographs for a higher dynamic range (HDR) or correcting an overexposed photograph, I mostly use programs like Photomatix, however it is sometimes too difficult or frustrating fiddling with the settings for minutes getting nowhere. So, there is an easier way and in certain cases much better than an HDR especially if you want to avoid those really surreal photographs – Digital Blending is the way to go, you can be much more selective with your increases/decreases in dynamic range and get more realistic results.

Shot of the Day #30

Kuala Lumpur’s China Town is a hub for cheap electronics, DVDs and watches – also an interesting part of KL, the older parts of KL with the historic markets and The Cricket Club. I used a slow shutter speed to blur the moving cars – showing Kuala Lumpur’s bustling way of life.
